Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Sir Richard Wadd?
A fellow of intimate jest… (and if you got that, you’ll do well here). He’s a man of taste, talent, and occasional but charming tangentialism who believes that porn has the capacity to be thoughtful, intelligent, and artistic even while it fulfills its ostensible role as a sexual aid.
What does he do?
Sir Richard operates a pornographic website that makes extraordinary gay adult content available to the world. If that sounds like the kind of generic and overblown claim you’ve heard many times before, be assured: at SirRichardWadd.com, it’s well supported. As you’ll discover, an impressive amount of work goes into the presentation of each photoset.
How does he do it?
To the stark banality of pornographic images, Sir Richard adds a marvelous textual dimension in the form of highly original verse – scripted iambic pentameter that enhances each and every picture in a truly amazing way. Iambic pentameter is a metrical form that was used most famously by Shakespeare. An iamb consists of two beats; five of them combined (“penta”) creates a 10-beat line of poetry whose natural rhythm infuses the words with a wonderful spark of life. As an example of iambic pentameter in action, please read the Good Advice located on the Chronicles page.
What sets him apart?
While most porn sites hype their quantity – thousands of still, streaming, and live images slapped onto the page – Sir Richard stresses quality. He chooses his photos on the basis of three criteria: they must be Sexually Stimulating, Emotionally Provocative, and Intellectually Suggestive. This ensures that they possess a degree of authenticity capable of informing his writing – vivid and sophisticated text that humanizes the models and brings them to life in a way never before experienced in the realm of cyberporn.
Who is this site for?
Make no mistake, Sir Richard’s brand of erotica is not for everyone. In fact, it caters to a very limited niche market. If you consider yourself to be a person of intelligence, patience, and passion; if you value quality over quantity; if you’ve always longed for something more from your pornographic adventures – this site will probably appeal to you.
Who runs this place?
Award-winning writer and filmmaker Shawn Postoff, best known for his 3 years of screenwriting on Showtime’s hit cable series Queer as Folk, is the man behind the curtain. He is his own Webmaster here, and created this site as a place to explore a remote region of literature in which iambic pentameter meets explicit image. He favours simple, uncluttered design and eschews the useless bells and whistles you’ll find elsewhere. As with much in his life, this site will always privilege substance over style.
What’s with the plays?
Sir Richard Wadd is a fictional character who was created by Shawn Postoff long before this website existed. The character first appeared in the one-act play, Sir Richard Wadd, Pornographer, which premiered in 2005. There are two other plays in the Wadd cycle, Topographer and Paleographer. The backbone of the story, which spans approximately ten years, is centered around the relationship between Sir Richard and Kevin, a young man who dreams of becoming a part of Sir Richard’s world. More substantially, Kevin also wants to write with Sir Richard and to connect with him at an intimate level. The general themes of the trilogy grapple with the nature of pornography and the automatic disconnect that it engenders between the model, the producer, and the consumer. Postoff asserts that a good way to bridge this emotional gap is through poetry – but not just any kind of poetry: iambic pentameter. Why? Because the natural rhythms of the form suggest a heightened state of awareness that is grand and majestic, complex and layered, thoughtful and finely crafted (in other words, everything that porn is not). Whereas the plays explore these ideas in a literary and theatrical context, the erotic component of this website goes one step further and is intended as a stand-alone vehicle to put them into real and immediate action. Your presence here as a consumer is the final piece of the puzzle. You are encouraged to engage with the site and respond to it long before – and long after – you’ve had your wank.
What's the pricetag?
It's free -- for you. For the webmaster, alas, there exists a considerable cost in legally licensing the images that are used to create the Erotica. If you can help out with a donation, it would be greatly appreciated. But since most people choose not to donate, the webmaster has little choice but to supplement the site's income with advertising. *sigh...*
Is it worth it?
Of course it is -- it's free! Nevertheless, the concept of Value is extremely personal. Your enjoyment of this site will be a function of the extent to which you’re prepared to slow down and savour the text, the subtext, and the underlying message that girds each photoset. If you’re looking to simply “Get off n’ Go,” there’s not much here for you. If you’re afraid of big words, you’ll be far more comfortable somewhere else. If, however, you’re intrigued by the promise of something truly unique, you’re invited to look around and decide for yourself.
